Congrid has brought the BIM Viewer tool to the market, making it easy to browse 3D models on mobile devices.
“Our customers have not been completely satisfied with the BIM browsing tools previously on the market. That is why we wanted to come up with a tool that corresponds to our customers’ needs”, Congrid Product Marketing Manager Matti Huusko explains.
BIM Viewer is a mobile application developed for browsing Building information models. With the help of the application, 3D models can be viewed quickly and easily at the construction site.
When navigating the model, it is possible to utilise the area hierarchy designed for the project, which takes the user to the correct location view in the model with a few quick presses of a button.
“The problem with other similar software has been that it has been difficult to navigate in the challenging conditions of a construction site. We focused on solving this problem to make it easy, quick and effortless to use the product in the construction site environment”, Huusko says.
Linking the area hierarchy to the BIM also connects the data to a bigger entity. Congrid already provides its customers with BIM data through an API.
“In terms of product development, we only focused on the construction site field mobile version in BIM Viewer. We created a tool that can be used by all construction site operators from workers to managers”.
According to a survey conducted by Congrid, 3D views are still being printed out on paper on construction sites. This is because previously there has not been a BIM browsing tool simple enough for everyone to use.
Whether the purpose is the cross comparison of building models and carrying out work or obtaining object interest information for installation, Congrid wants to make the information available to everyone within seconds.
“We will continue BIM Viewer development in the future as well. We have plans to utilise 3D models more extensively as a part of Congrid’s products,” Huusko reveals.
